Welcome! If you want to improve your guitar skills, you’ve come to the right place! My online guitar tuition mixes traditional methods and modern techniques to fit all learners. They are designed for guitarists who want to reach their musical goals.
I’m here to help you grow as a musician first and foremost. I focus on boosting creativity while making sure you understand the essential concepts and skills for improvement on the instrument. With over 30 years of music teaching experience, I am dedicated to music education.
Why study with me?
Many students I meet find it hard to stay focused and have no clear plan for practice. They often feel frustrated by having purchased expensive online materials or complicated books and ultimately learned very little. To help with this, I customize my teaching for each individual student’s path. Based on my experience, this personalized support turns uncertainty into confidence and skill. I also believe having a professional guide is essential for mastering music.
With a good teacher, you gain knowledge, support, and constructive feedback, all vital for understanding music and improving your playing. That’s what I learned from my teachers, and it’s what I strive to offer every new student.
Here are some teaching principles I provide for my online students, whether you’re interested in Rock, Blues, or Jazz. I stress adaptability and personal expression in each genre. If this resonates with your musical goals, reach out! Let’s work together to achieve your dreams.
Together, we can create a curriculum that truly reflects your unique style and musical journey.
To master the guitar, you must engage fully with your instrument. Grasping scales, arpeggios, and chords in every key is important, but knowing why you’re practicing is essential. I can help clarify the practical benefits of this material for your playing. This journey requires effort, but the progress will keep you motivated.
Focus on playing actual music rather than just drills or patterns. This is a key part of my teaching. Music is about expressing emotions, so choose pieces that resonate with you during practice.
Plan your musical journey wisely. I often discuss this with my students. Understand your current skills and visualize your goals; this clarity is vital for your artistic growth. Check out my article on Effective Musical Practice: Mastering Your Music – Effective Practice
Listen to and appreciate great music! Discover works by guitar legends and artists from different genres. I encourage all my guitar students to engage in this listening exploration to broaden their musical knowledge.
Work on your listening skills and awareness of rhythm; these are crucial for your progress. They will lead to many musical opportunities.
Aim to improve, but also enjoy your practice. Learning guitar should be an enjoyable journey, not a chore. I recommend finding creative and fun ways to practice so you look forward to each session!
Finally, remember that online learning allows you to study and progress from home or anywhere else you prefer!

Pete Sklaroff - Background
I began my musical journey in Edinburgh, Scotland, performing in various blues and rock bands. I later transitioned to teaching Jazz and Popular music at Leeds College of Music (now Leeds Conservatoire). During my time there, I served as Head of Jazz Studies and Assistant Head of Music, and I also coordinated the Guitar and Bass Department.
I have studied Jazz Improvisation and Harmony with well-known instructors like Charlie Banacos, Jeff Andrews, and Garry Dial in the United States, as well as with notable teachers in the UK like Adrian Ingram and Neil Munro. Since the 1980s, I’ve taught many guitar students, some of whom have achieved notable success in their music careers. In 2010, I started offering remote video guitar lessons, which allowed me to teach students from over 20 countries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are your remote guitar lessons suitable for beginners?
I don’t currently teach complete beginners, but I wholeheartedly welcome students who possess a basic understanding of common chords, some scales, and the ability to play with a pick. If you’re feeling uncertain about your skill level, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a friendly chat. I would be more than happy to assess your progress and also provide guidance on how to enhance your musical journey.
How long are your video guitar lessons?
I usually teach one-hour online lessons, but I can certainly adjust the length of the lessons to better accommodate your specific needs and preferences. Whether you require a shorter session or perhaps a longer one, I am flexible and willing to tailor the lesson duration to ensure you get the most out of your learning experience.
Do I have to be able to read music to study with you?
You don’t need to have prior experience or knowledge in reading music before starting your lessons with me. I teach using both tablature, which is often more accessible for beginners, and standard music notation, which is the traditional method used by many musicians, but it’s not a strict requirement for getting started. My approach is designed to accommodate students of all skill levels, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident as they learn.
What if I have questions between lessons?
Email me anytime if you have any questions or concerns about the material we’ve covered. I’m here to help clarify and provide further insight on any topics that may need additional explanation or support. Your understanding is my priority, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
What musical styles do you teach?
I teach Rock, Blues, and Jazz guitar to students of varying skill levels. My extensive experience includes Classic Rock, Electric Blues, and Bebop Jazz, allowing me to cover a broad spectrum of musical styles. I place a significant emphasis on improvisation within these genres, encouraging creativity and personal expression in my students. Additionally, I can assist non-guitarists who are interested in developing their understanding of music theory and improvisation techniques, helping them to enhance their overall musicianship regardless of their chosen instrument.
Do you offer any discounts for lessons?
I offer a variety of discounted lesson packages for short, medium, or long-term musical study, tailored specifically for those who are genuinely interested in enhancing their musical journey. Whether you’re a beginner seeking foundational skills or an advanced student looking to refine your technique, these packages provide an excellent opportunity to dive deeper into your musical studies while benefiting from substantial savings.
